VENUS
The changing phases of Venus.

Feb - July 07
This composite shot shows Venus
getting closer and changing phase from February up to late July
when it became too close (for comfort) to the Sun to image safely.
The first 4 shots are month on month from Feb - May you'll notice the phase
change yes but
the size stays almost the same.
As it got closer to us in June the size and phase began to change faster and
faster until
it was noticeable after just a few days.
The last two images are from the start and end of July and the change is very
obvious.
All shots were taken with a Meade
ETX-125 PE Telescope, a 2x Barlow and Philips SPC900 Webcam.
Processed in Registax and composite created in Photoshop.

Here is a shot of Venus from
this evening (29th July) at 8PM.
Its deadly hard to locate now.
But it's a bit of a buzz when you do spot it.
From visual observation I reckon you can see the phase change in just 2 nights.
I also had a brief impression that the planet was lighter than the surrounding
sky!
Ashen light? No - Me thinks its just an optical illusion.
I even thought I could see the tips of the crescent run an almost full circle
around the globe.
Same evening, using a 5 X Barlow
with the same set up.

2 min AVI taken at 30 fps.
stacked close to 3000 frames here.
The phase is getting more pronounced & it's getting bigger (closer) every
week.
It's amazing the difference in size since Feb.

I recorded a few tests From the night I
shot the shuttle & ISS
using Venus as a target.
I didn't use a barlow so this is resized 200% in Registax.
Showing the current phase which is just gone past half and
changing faster by the week.
