Poulnabrone
dolmen (Poll na mBrón in Irish meaning "hole of
sorrows")
is a Neolithic period portal tomb which dates back to about 2500 BC. Situated in
the Burren, Co. Clare.
A thin capstone sits on two 1.8m (6ft) high portal stones to create a chamber in
a 9m (30ft) low cairn.
The tomb houses the remains of one newborn baby, six juveniles, and 16-22
adults.
There are 40 smaller such dolmens in the area. This is the most well known
dolmen in Ireland.
