JUPITER
Jupiter showing 'The Bird
Strike' Impact scar on the SPR
(the dark area at the top of the planet in this image)
20.07.2009 & also Io in
transit casting a shadow .

Jupiter with an unusual black
markings in the South ( North in this image)
Possibly caused by an impact.
Also shows the Moon Io about to transit and the shadow from it
cast onto Jupiter.

Jupiter, quite low down and in the
murk.
Taken with an ETX-125 and Philips SPC900 webcam.
Inset shows 3 moons, Ganymede,
Callisto & Io.
07.07.07
This shot of Jupiter shows just how
much the cloud banding
has changed in the last few months.
The Great Red Spot is standing out a lot more against a new white region of
cloud forming around it.
On the one o' clock position of the limb is the moon Ganymede at the end of a
transit across the planet disk.

10.06.07
Well between the passes of the ISS and
Shuttle I was honing
my focusing on Jupiter and testing the PC that all was ready to go.
I grabbed a few AVI's but I didn't think I'd get anything useful from them.
This image came out alright..
It shows a little bit of detail and 3 moons.
This was taken without a barlow for 3 min. and the frame rate was
30 per second which is why I'm thinking it beat the seeing.
Faster frame rates are the way to go I reckon?

17.05.07
Jupiter with the GRS on the left of the planet just beginning its
transition.
Shot was taken with a Philips SPC900 webcam, IR cut filter & Meade ETX-125 PE.
3000 frames stacked in Registax & colour adjusted in Photoshop.

17.05.07
Same as above but smaller & less processing.

15.05.07
This animation was taken over around 4
hours and
shows a transit of the GRS around most of the planet.
The seeing got worse as the planet dipped twords the horizon at dawn.
There are 10 individual frames,
each a finished image from a 2 min AVI captured through
a Philips SPC9000 webcam & ETX-125
Processed (roughly!) in Registax.
I have'nt colour corrected it yet,
I may not bother as I reckon it looks grand for what it is.
Got to try and catch me a transit of one of the moons now!

(Details to follow)

15.05.07
Here is a quick snap I took of Jupiter
showing four moons with a canon 350D through my ETX 125.
I was surprised at the level of detail the camera picked up for one shot but
that's not surprising
as the weather and seeing is awesome here
in Portugal (on honeymoon!) at the moment.

03.04.07
I've been itching to see Jupiter since I
got my scope last Autum.
So I decided as the weather is good today to get up early and give it a shot.
At only around 18deg high it's not in a great position sure, but it was
still a knockout planet to view!
I could easily spot Europa, Ganymed & Callisto in a neat line.
Io on the other hand was in transit and not visible at all.
(although there is a wee black dot on the image I doubt it's Io or its shadow?)
Banding was evident although it was hard at times to see it looking through
the muck.
I'm kicking myself for not investing in the scope a little sooner
as I can remember Jupiter being very nicely placed a few years back.
Anyway...with Saturn so well placed at the moment who can complain?
As for imaging it...
(Philips SPC9000 & ETX-125)
I didn't expect to get much because of it's position.
But some banding and detail is there alright.
