Just to keep a record of the final days of Comet 17P/Holmes, here is a shot
of the Perseus region showing Holmes as a very diffuse cloud like area next to the star Algol.

Comet 17P/Holmes continues to expand but begins to fade.

It's just still about naked eye. Pretty amazing to think its now much bigger in diameter than the Sun.

Canon 350D, 18-55 mm Lens, 20sec, ISO 1800.

Comet 17P/Holmes - Eruption!

Astronomers in Japan, Persia and Europe reported last night that Comet 17P/Holmes is underwent a spectacular eruption.
The 17th magnitude comet  brightened by a factor of five hundred thousand or more during the past 24 hours
becoming a naked-eye object in the evening sky.
Look for a yellow 2.5th magnitude fuzzball in the constellation Perseus after sunset.

This comet is one of the strangest I've ever seen.
It's outburst was totally unexpected and since it's happened it is getting bigger and brighter.
At last observation I estimated it to be Mag. 2.5.
Time will only tell if it becomes a daylight object or if it tails.
